OK, I just received my new PC 7424. Now I understand that I should buy 6" wheel and balance weight as well as an assortment of pads, etc. Will be using primarily on a black Z06. Suggestions on what and where to buy? Thanks

I use Lake Country pads (orange, white, and black). I use Menzerna and Poorboy's polishes. I use Pak Shak towels.

I buy most of my supplies from www.pakshak.com (PM me for a discount code).

Default Lake County Pads for sure!

With good paint like on your vette you only need the white and black or grey pad. Read some of the web sites you will find on this thread. It will teach you all you need to know about using your PC. As long as you keep it moving and don't press down hard you won't have any problems. Makes polishing fun. I have one and I love it!

If you are going to use your PC for polishing, you really should consider yellow and orange pads. They have a little more bite and considered the right choice for polishing. The grey finishing pads are nice for wax and sealant removal.

http://www.autogeek.net/lakecountry.html descriptions on each pad are also included on this page.

Counterweights:
The counterweight is a half-moon shaped piece of metal attached to the rotating shaft of the tool, this smoothes out the random orbit action by providing a counter balance to the elliptical orbit of the rotating backing pad. If you change the pad size you must also change the counterweight or suffer unnecessary vibration and possible damage to the tool. Counterweights are attached with two Torx fasteners; size T15.

There are two different counter-weights, which are clearly marked to indicate use with either the 5-inch, or 6-inch backing pad. Therefore with a 6-inch backing pad for polishing you should use the 6-inch, 0.140 oz. counterweight (PN 699933).

Foam Pad Selection:
·Polish / Cutting Pad (*Yellow)-a harder more dense foam composition with an abrasive cutting action, for use with a medium abrasive polish, Machine Polish 1 or 2, Swirl Mark Remover, or Autoglym Paint Renovator Polish (Speed number 4-5)
·Polish / Light Cutting Pad (*Orange)-a mid range, high density foam composition with a medium abrasive cutting action, for use with a Swirl Mark Remover, Pre-Wax Paint Cleaner, Klasse All-In-One, or Autoglym Super Resin Polish (Speed number 4)
·Polish / Waxing Pad (*White)-a softer less dense foam composition with a light abrasive cutting action, for use with a Swirl Mark Remover, Pre-Wax Paint Cleaner, Klasse All-In-One, or Autoglym Super Resin Polish (Speed number 4)
·Finishing Pad (*Black)-an ultra-smooth foam that has no abrasive cutting ability, for use with Klasse High Sealant Gloss, Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection, Zanio Z-2 or Z-5 or a Glaze (Speed number 3)
·Levelling Pad (Wool):
·Are made from ¾-inch 100% natural lambs wool (do not use synthetic wool) are usually used to level a paint film surface with an abrasive machine polish (compound) or to apply a polish to large areas
·Wool pads used wet or dry have the greatest cutting ability and they also produce the most paint surface `compounding haze'

Constant Pressure (LC) 6-inch Foam Pad Starter Kit:
A constant pressure foam pad, this is essentially a flat 6-inch pad which uses a patented technology layer of engineered, instant rebound foam between the pad and the backing plate to absorb off-axis movements while keeping the pressure of the pad on the surface constant. These European pads are made from engineered, thermally reticulated (exploded open cell) foams with a 99% open cell structure, specifically designed for compounding, polishing and finishing:

Constant Pressure Foam Pad Starter Kit:
·1-Polish / Cutting Pad (*Yellow)
·2-Polish / Light Cutting Pad (*Orange)
·2-Polish / Waxing Pad (*White)
·2-Finishing Pad (*Black)
·1-5-inch Flexible Urethane Backing Plate
·
*The foam pad colour identifications and specifications are by Lake County Manufacturing (LC) www.lakecountrymfg.com other manufactures of foam pads use a different colour to identify the abrasiveness or cutting ability of their foam pads

Pick up some LC constant Pressure pads from www.properautocare.com. The "Constant Pressure" layer of foam helps you keep the pad flat on the surface and are great for beginners.
