I was trying to touch up a small road chip on the hood (about 14 inches above the bumper and centered) with GM touch up paint. I accidentaly dropped a bead of sweat on the paint and did not notice it until it was too late. Its probably 3/8 inch round X an 1/8 in depth. Although it was torch red paint, it still is very noticeable to me. I tried using regular compound but it did not work.
Are there any tricks to shave this paint down or am I doomed and need to repaint the hood??
I recently decide to work on two old spots that had previously been touched up w/ paint. Like you It stuck out to me like a sore thumb. I taped off the adjacent area then worked on the spots with wet sand paper starting with 1200 grit and working my way up then using compound. I can hardly notice them now. Go to an auto paint supply store and they will tell you what you need. Very inexpensive. I assume you have a good clear coat over base coat...
If you are trying to remove a drop of paint that dripped onto the hood, Turpentine will remove the drop of paint. It WILL NOT remove any paint that was put on at the factory.
