best way to clean up differential housing?
hi everybody.
didnt know where to start a thread so i'll put it here and move if needed.
just recieved a used getrag i bought off another forum member.
the housing is pretty grimmy, dirty and what looks like the best way to describe is darkened, not the bright alum housing most have.
how do i go about and what do i use to clean it up??? restore it to it's bright alum finish???
i've never had to deal with this before so im really lost...
all recommendations and advice will be greatly appreciated..
thanks in advance,
dan

Gunk makes a product called engine bright I have used it for years for cleaning aluminum
Simple Green and several others will work also just don't leave the aluminum looking as good as the engine bright.
Engine bright can be found at Wal-Mart or any Auto Store

The local GM dealer here uses a product called "Brake Kleen" for cleaning up the area around the differential. Just had my seals replaced yesterday and found out this was what was used. Seems like it works ok.
