Now that we all know which product works for us. lets discuss technique or the type of tools we use....
The hardest part for me is air vents and door jams.
The vents I use Q-tips and pipe cleaners. Before I knew better I use too spray A-A in the vents but later learned that the dirt would collect at the lower spots. Mine still are not clean but if I look in the vents at least they look clean.
The door jambs are a pain because of limited access and a few blind nooks. On the jambs I use a horse hair paint brush and soapy water to clean and then my special rags to dry. I also use my type of wax in there also. It seems to stay cleaner longer.
I have found that a toothbrush works wonders on the dash and door panels. It gets in the cracks and around the switches real good.
getting into the air vents and door jams are crucial when detailing....
If we're talking about cleaning the interior then what I like to do is spray my all purpouse cleaner straight into the vents, then brush them and finally use my vaccuum to dry it up. Works awesome. I do this for pretty much the whole interior... make sure your vac is strong enough.
The vac for the air vents is a good ideal, never thought about that.
How do polish and wax around the emblems, hood and tank lid? Mine I use a fine brush and also a toothbrush to clean excess wax out. Problem with this methed is when I am parked under certain types of lights I can see fine scratches. No matter how I fold my micro cloth, I can never get the edges just right.
What do you use to lube the door hinges and other areas that need to be lubed? For now, I use to use Mobil1 Spray Lube...it doesn't run & doesn't collect dirt like other lubes. But, they stopped making it a while back. I have 2 cans left. I have spent a small fortune trying to find decent lube....my wife's car door hinges are the "test" hinges. Nothing that I have tried comes close to Mobil1 spray lube. I have searched Autopia & Bob is Oil Guy and it seems that they are mostly WD-40 and Remmington gun oil people.
Door hinges I have used the old sewing machine oil and it is just as bad as wd40, makes a mess and doesn't last very long.
I am in the agri buisness and found a oil spray that is used on Baler chains that seems to work and it has lasted a few months. Even using this stuff I still have to go in after I spray the hinges and clean the paint surface. My knuckles get knocked around trying to get into the tight area.
I'll have to have a look around here for Mobile1 spray

This stuff seems to be pretty good lube and is quite clean and non-staining). Haven't tried it on the door hinges yet, but it works on the hinges on my kitchen cabinets. http://www.performancelubricant.dupo...cts_multi.html
If you want thicker stuff, the Amsoil or Mobil 1 synthetic greases are fairly non-messy and stay in place well.
