Default Engine Cleanning????

Well since I first got my car a week ago as of today. I desparately need to clean the engine compartment. Apparently the gentleman who owned it before only thought of washing exterior and cleanning interior! Meanwhile the engine compartment is very very dirty !

So I don't think that it can simply be wiped down. I needs a serious cleanning. Was thinking I should take it to the car wash and spray some of that engine cleanning stuff and then rise off. Follwed by a serious wipe down. Suggestions????

I would first try letting the car run for awhile then spraying the engine bay down with some windex and letting it sit for ten minutes then rinse off with a hose. You can repeat this step or go straight to spraying the engine down with 303 and letting it sit for 10 minutes and wipe off the excess with a rag. This method worked great for me just be sure to keep the water pressure low.

I take mine to a DIY carwash, clean the engine with high pressure soap.
it comes out like brand new!

and before anybody says that I'm crazy for doing it this way.....
I've been doing this to every car I ever owned, that includes '68 mustang, '77 corvette, '85 corvette, and my '98 Pace Car.
also many friends and family members cars, I have NEVER had a problem with any car from cleaning the engine this way.

Let me tell you what i do I take it to the wash and before i put my money in the machine i spray it down good with straight simple green, while that sets I use my jack and jack the car from the middle between the front wheels right there in the wash bay. I then spray down the whole thing, under and over with the engine cleaner goop they have. Rinse and repeat as nessecary
