Default Detailing Tip

For the last few years, I have adopted the policy of placing tire covers on my vehicles prior to waxing. This will prevent any contact between the polishing towel and any debris on the tire while buffing around the fender well area. Needless to say, a contaminated towel can have disasterous results (I learned the hard way). They also work great when using a car cover as they shield the cover from the sidewall of the tire thereby eliminating stains and contamination of your cover. I purchased mine at an R/V store and are available in various sizes relative to tire diameter. As I recall the cost was around $40, and in my opinion is cheap insurance.

Pretty good tip. You could probably use an old sheet to cover your tires while polishing and it would be cheaper than buying tire covers. You really need to excercise caution around any area that could introduce grit to your polishing process such as around trim, panel seams and tires and wheel wells. I usually try to wash these areas real well when I know I am going to be polishing my car.

Good tip. At the shop I used to work in, we used the 55 gallon drum liners that were for a big trash can to do this.
