Default Chip Shock

I usually detail the 2004 black coupe in the garage but recently I had occasion to do some work outside in the bright sunlight. I was surprised to discover numerous small (rock?) chips on the hood, many well above the area protected by the bra. I was aware of some chips but the number was shocking - in some places it looked like the hood was sandblasted. The number and small size of the chips precludes the use of touch-up paint on them individually. Is there any product I can use by hand that will eliminate or at least fill the chips so they will not be as noticeable? I recently started using Rejex but it doesn't seem to have filling properties. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Somebody posted a link to a product called touchup123 that looks like it may address this issue. I have never tried it myself so cannot say if it works or not. If you give it a try please report back as to your findings, if it works I will be sure to pick some up myself.

I too am awaiting a review of this product. My LMB C6 got rocked pretty bad and would love to repair without repainting.

count me in too. I was going to be the guinea pic myself and try it - it's not very expensive, about $30 as I recall. Worth a try ---
but I've spent the last two weeks trying to search for my paint color code with no sucess.

you can't make an order without knowing your paint color code. I don't need it for the Vette -- need it for a black 2003 Mercedes ML350. Have searched the web, mercedes web site, the owner's manual, various locations in the car without success.

If anyone knows mercedes color codes, or where I can find one, let me know -- I'll be glad to order this 123 stuff and try it. Very annoying.

Well here is what I did with my (98 Black coupe), dont laugh, It works, go to your local grocery store(school supply aisle), or craft store, walmart , kmart etc, and buy a Black Sharpie permanent marker, I found one with a dual tip (small fine tip on one end and fatter fine pointed tip on the other ), I used the small fine tip for the chips in the hood, very easy to use ,used the fatter fine tip on the door edges and larger chips.
Granted I didnt have that many chips, but this procedure worked wonders, I have Zaino'd over them 4/5 times allready and they have not faded.

I stress this is only for Black vettes,I dont know how the sharpie Red or other colors actually match up to the paints of the vettes.

good luck, hey its better to spend 3 buks instead of 30, after all that 123 product basically does the same thing , it fills in the scratches with color, just what the sharpie does, unlike the touchup paint , it also will not leave high spots or globs, give it a try.

05 Victory Red is WA9260

02 Black is WA8555 (This is your basic black black)

In most cases black is black, I use my MB touchup on my vette and visa versa, they seem to be the same/interchangable.

I was thinking about taking a chance for 35 bucks too and just trying it. I have lost more than that in the slots @ AC right.

I have done this at Car Shows before when in a pinch. I have even used eye liner once.

Excellent, I cannot wait to hear your results. Do you have any areas with alot of road rash or are you doing the daily driver first?

I could probably do the entire front end of my DD. Going up and down 95 everyday really sucks.

Thanks for the responses. I will definitely look into the chip kit several members have mentioned. Will also try the Sharpie suggestion for a short term solution. I'll report back when I try one or both. I would be very interested in hearing about the results for those who have already tried the chip kit.

Langka and touchup is also an excellent choice for larger isolated chips.

you got it -- I have no need for this on the vette, but about 100 chips on the front of my wife's SUV. May take a couple of weeks before the kit arrives and I have a chance to try it, but I'll let you guys know

Thanks , Buddy --
I do like their web site, and I like their presentation that they don't seem to promise anything unreal. The pics in that thread look good, not touched up, and realistic. I'll let you know

and, oh yes -- one of the main reason to have a wife is so you always have someone else's car to practice on - you can quote me on that.

sorry , men - had to work this weekend, and when I got some time today - just before sunset, it was about 10 F outside, and I couldn't get the hose unfrozen . So can't wash the car and therefor still cannot try out the touchup123 system.

Their product did arrive about 72 hours after I placed my order and my first impression is very good. They seem to have thought of everything you might need, and it's all in the box. Stay tuned - haven't forgotten about this - the first chance I get I will do a good trial with plenty of pictures for ya....

I used the Black Sharpie trick too!! I discovered the benefits about 2 years ago... Only on Black cars...

You need to move to FL bro..

Seriously I's like to hear how it does.... Also how do you think it would work on Silver? my Daily has a ding in the side door.. I was considering having the paintless dent guy flatten it.. and then use this 123 process to fix the paint...
