Default I hate vette clear.....

2000 vette

Here is how the fun started:

So I have been polishing on it for most of the day.

Started a section on the hood, tried the following:
Menzerna PG with orange excel pad at 1500- after about 6x gave up on that.
PG with foam compounding wafffle pad at 1500-better but still not going to get it done.
Megs #4 heavy cut and wool pad at 1500-1600. getting it done much better but still not 100% after 3x. Leaving some nice micromarring.

Did the whole hood and most of the roof.

This pic of the roof is after 3x of #4 and wool at 1500-1600:

I was about out of #4 so I cleaned the wool pad and went back to PG. I did the rear deck area doing about 3x per section. It seems that the micromarring is not as bad with the PG.

I came around to the drivers door did 2x PG and wanted to see how it was going to finish up. I was planning on IP/FPII but I I tried some 106ff with a orange excel pad and 1500. Still too many defects so I hit it 2x more with PG and wool. I then did 2x 106ff again with orange excel pad and 1500.

This might be as good as its gonna get.

That must be some *deep* damage because I don't have that much trouble using the PC.

I agree...I've had Ford, Mazda, Hyundai and Pontiac cars before and I honestly never noticed as many swirls showing up on those cars as I do on my Corvette...

Granted I may not have cared as much before, but I'm pretty fussy about the look of the cars I've had...and NEVER have I been as careful about what touches my car. I used to use whatever was laying around and never noticed the amount of swirls.

I think whatever GM uses for clearcoat on these Vettes is just weak...why...who knows, but it seems my black Elantra could take much more of a beating.

Im doing the same with my vette. I used half a bottle of meg heavy cut in the hood. Made a huge improvement. Ran out of it and decided to give menzerna a try. Should be comin in tomorrow. I'll try to do some before and after pics if they come out. gmblack, my trunk lid looks like your first pic does. No idea why, but thats the wost part on the car. Like the guy before me used it as a storage rack. I know the tough work you are going through.

There is no magic bullet. Your best bet is a rotary and the products you are using or even better 3000 grit wet sand and then re-polish with a rotary. The PC really is not aggressive enough to remove much in the way of heavy scratching or swirls. All a PC will do is round off the edges of your scratches making it hard for the light to reflect off of them and in essence making the scratches and swirls much harder to see.

Getting a rotary is one of the best things I ever did for detailing. It is not as intimidating as it seems. If you use a 6.5" pad and keep you speed down (1000 to 1500) and keep the machine as level as possible and keep it moving you will have no problems.

Are you using a PC or rotary?

The hard work is all done.

I agree Frank. I was scared of the wool, but its easier to use then a foam pad.

You need to just keep playing around. Try with and without flash, different angles and different light until you get it right.

thanks, I'll play around with it some more. There are still scratches but its a vast improvement over what it was before. I swear the previous owner probably washed the car in automatic car washes.

I now have the freshest of all fresh rides thanks to Bryan.

Bryan worked really really hard cleaning up my car.
He is very diligent and careful to get the right combination of product and tool. It was amazing to watch and see the transformation take place.

It looks AWESOME, as if it was repainted.

Thanks again Bryan.

Show 'em the final pictures of all your hard work.
