Just wondered if anyone else drives the car to do the majority of the water removal.
I live in an apartment so I'm pretty much stuck with "quarter" car washes. Wash, being careful of the weatherstrip, rinse, "spot-free" rinse, then a quick run up the freeway for a couple of exits then home. A little water is left at that point from the mirrors, tailights, etc. You have to be careful of any picked-up road dust and yes, you do collect a bug every once in a while, but they are easily removed at that point.
If I'm pressed for time I will drive my car before drying it off, but only if it's first thing in the morning before it gets too hot out. The road I take is a 50mph road, and I'll drive it for about a mile or two and then stop and wipe off whatever is left. Sometimes it does pick up a tiny bit of dust, but not too much.
