Default Really trashed paint

I've real all the posts I could but need a little, OK, a lot more info as I have never done this. My 92 polo green vert's paint and clearcoat is trashed. I think it's worse than Chuckters red pontiac that he brought back to life. In some spots the clearcoat is gone, other's it whiting out and bubbling. If I am going to do this myself i need some direction and a list of products. I have a very good detail supply store near me but trust you guys more for direction. Looks like I'll have to wet sand a lot. I don't own a wheel but will buy one. Any help would be appreciated. Looking for a 20 to 30 foot look, if that even possible.

Honestly, if the clearcoat is bubbling, etc. there's no correct fix except for a repaint, but without seeing your finish, it's hard to say for sure what it would need.

Can't afford a repaint yet. Looking to make some improvement. In some spots the clearcoat is totaly gone so is it possible to wet sand it to feather it in. What Chukster did with that red pontiac is prolly what I need. Just don't know how.

*I* would stick to the compound/polish routine. IMO, wetsanding will only increase the degradation of the clearcoat.

If you wet sand the base coat where the clear is already gone you could go through to primer REAL quick. I would just buff it up best I could and live with it. Find a good SSR that you like to work with and a foam polishing pad and have at it. I would keep my speed down around 900 considering the condition of the paint. I would probably also use a mild SSR like ZPC, FPII or 39009.

I would wash the car down with Dawn dish soap to remove the old wax (use a clay bar as well if it has lots of gunk on it), then take your time (Make sure you are thorough!) do a nice buffing job. Then, lay down a coat or two of wax and it should look quite alot better.

If it ever stops raining I'll have to get over to the store. Might as well buy a rotary and learn to use it. Got a boat to practice on as well. Just sucks that I don't have a garage. Would be a waste to get a paint job and have the salt water/air ruin it. Car covers do not do the trick.
PS. What about where the clearcoat is white and bubbling.
