After a lot of work I was using my PC to apply Wolfgang Finishing Glaze. I had the car in excellent condition and almost all micro scratches and swirls have been removed with the first 2 processes. As I got to the middle of my hood I noticed all these *#@$(*^@#($&%*)!@ tiny scratches on the top and side of my front fender. WTF is this... I thought! I know damn good and well I had the fender just about perfect. Well I realized they were were caused by the freaken PC cord touching the top of fender as I was working the middle of the hood. MAN.. was I pis*** off.......... How stupid could I be... I was really mad at myself. I then went back removed all the scratches and covered the fender with a fender gripper mat worked but not great while I finished the middle of the hood. Had to keep looking to see if it got moved. Is there anyway to prevent the PC cord from scratching the car while polishing places that hard to reach? Almost seems like there should be soft cover over the cord because every small dirt particle sticks to the rubber cord. The cord is going to touch the garage floor and unfortunately I'm not working in a clean room. Any suggestions how to avoid that from happening.....
you might want to hit the local Home Depot and buy some thin gray pipe insulation and use some electrical tape to hold it in place. If you're using your PC in the garage, you can place a hook in the ceiling and drape the cord down from there.
DUH..... should have thought of that BEFORE doing double work... Thanks guys both are great suggestions which I will use.... This is what makes this forum so great... someone has already been there and done that before! Sure makes things a lot easier..... I hope to start the final stage tomorrow! Guess I'll go with Zaino... Never used it before but it doesn't seem to difficult. Seem like lots of people here like the product.....
Toss it over your shoulder or get a monkey tail from DF towels.
Over the shoulder works well.
If I'm not working o the middle of the car, I run the cord through a carabiner attached to a side belt loop.
I've been concerned that a monkey tail would ultimately pick-up grit.
If you do use the monkey tail, please verify it hasn't picked up anything before you allow it to rub over the surface. I have seen the results of the monkey cord holding onto something and then being dragged across a fender......Over the shoulder works good and I usually start with the hood center and work out anyway. Same with the top.
I'm right handed so I run the cord under my belt on my left hip across my back and over my right shoulder. That way it stays in place. Always do the center first work your way toward the outside. No reason to spend money on a monkey tail just don't drag anything including a monkey tail across the Finnish.
all good tips here. I use the start from center out method as well as the keep the cord over my shoulder method. I will have to try out the carabiner method
Do they make carabiners in plastic ? I would be afraid to have a piece of metal that big on my belt loop while I was reaching over the side of my car trying to detail it.
I guess I may be over protective of my car. Typically when I wash and detail it, I wear a pair of sweats since a lot of my jeans have metal rivets on them and I would be wearing a belt also. This way, with the sweats, no metal to worry about.

I recently saw a key chain made out of them in plastic, at one of the parts store.
In case anyone wants to know, we offer the new 7424HD which now offers a 25 foot cord. No easy way to keep it off the car, but in most cases you no longer need an extension cord.
