Default detailing tips Help!

Ready for my first wax this weekend. I am planning on using a cleaner wax and then use something nice like mequiers nxt or liquid gold. 2 questions.
1. how long do I need to wait, if any between the first wax and second.

2. Any tips about waxing around front and rear c-5 emblems? I assume you want to avoid getting wax on emblems just like the weatherstrips, since they are black.

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

I'm real new to this, but, perhaps using some tape around the emblems (and other areas) will help prevent any "smearing" of the wax.

with traditional waxes there is no wait time, with a paint sealant 12-24 hours is the normal.

as for getting around the emblems, you can use blue masking tape, or find a very good and very soft toothbrush.

yes - it's worth it to have a nice detail brush that you can use to get the residue and dust out of cracks, around emblems, etc . Meguiars.com has one for $3 that I use, and really like.

But also consider using a synthetic sealant that won't stain trim, and won't produce dust and debris in the first place.
  • Zaino
  • Rejex - haven't used it myself, but others tell me it doesn't stain trim and doesn't produce dust

just to name two. All of the over-the-counter standard waxes will make all that yellow carnauba dust that is a nuisance to clean up, and will stain the trim. Rather than spend another hour trying to get THAT off the car, use something that doesn't create the problem in the first place. Many guys don't even know that such "dust-free" products exist.

I don't think so. I used NXT back in early January, and I didn't experience any staining issues with it.

I have experienced stained trim with both Rejex and NXT. My advice is if you get any on it remove it immediately. It is mostly textured trim that is the problem, your emblems will be fine.
