Clear Coat Scratching?
Washing :
Consider a Foam Gun -- presoak will naturally allow some contaminents to move off finish in the soaps foam and lubrication is far greater than water alone.
Sheepskin Mitt -- Using a soft product with a very large nap will help to move imbedded contaminents up and away from the finish.
Buckets --- dont keep rinsing the mitt in the same bucket of dirty water. Consider a Grit Gard, and two buckets. One for soap the other for clean water to rinse.
Patterns --- do not circle when washing. Try to move in straight lines back and forth, use similar pattern for waxing, polishing.
Drying:
Sheet Water --- After washing consider removing any nozzle and allow the water to sheet the final layer of dirt and soap off the surface. This will also reduce amount of water when drying.
Leaf Blower --- using this type of machinery will help to remove excess water on the finish. It also helps remove water from spots where it will likely drain later, and you might wipe off.
Towels --- Consider a good waffle weave type drying towel and move in straight lines. I use a QD'er (Quikshine, Crystal Mist, Showtime, Fk425) on the damp surface, prior to wiping dry with my Guzzler, in order to provide some lubrication. Less like to induce scratches.
Qding --- If using a product to spruce up the gloss or protection on your finish after washing, then consider good thick microfibers. Follow the same pattern.
also a couple more ideas:
- don't be misled by false swirls in an oily top layer - I've had this happen with Z8 , and definitely with NXT - where you don't have scratches, just an appearance LIKE scratching , from smearing of an oily top layer. You'll only know this after a wash - if the marks are still there, they weren't from oils on the surface. Sounds dumb, but they can be VERY convicing.
- Be sure to use first quality towels. I use either 100% cotton towels from Ralph Lauren (usually) , or Pakshak waffle weave microfiber, or Cobra waffle weave. The latter two are used for drying, and I use cotton for all removal of zaino or application of Z6. If you're using T-shirts, flannel diapers, or cheapy microfiber from Walmart , there is your answer for why you have scratching.
To dry I use a hose and remove the nozzle and sheet the water off each panel, then I use a electric 220mph Leaf blower to blow the excess water off and then follow up with one of my soft Pakshak waffle weve drying towels. With this method you are touching/rubbing your paint a lot less and the less you touch/rub it the less chance of scratching.
