Just ordered a pack of them. Are they really as good as people say they are? Are they good for cleaning glass? How about cleaning the dash and interior. Dry or soaked with cleaner? Have to confess, I've had no experience with them before. Thanks.
Yes to all. There has been a lot of discussion on these in the past in the Car Care Discussion section of the Forum and you should be able to find some of these discussion threads there.
I just recently started using the Cobra Microfiber Towels from forum vendor http://www.autogeek.net/ and have been very pleased with the results.
If you do a search, you'll find a lot of info on various brands.
Here's a link to a recent thread in the "Car Care" section: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...rofiber+towels
For the info. I ordered a pack from autogeeks. I hear they don't leave lint behind, which is nice especially with a black dash and interior. Can you buff with them too? I need them to clean my glass. I have some McGuire's glass cleaner, but have used paper towels, which I have read are suboptimal. With the microfiber towels, I hope to have no streaks on the glass after cleaning...streaks drive me nuts!
They are perfect for use with auto quick detailer sprays. I also picked up one at Wal-mart for car drying...it was a large one. It is awesome! Dries the car better than a chomois in my opinion.
I'll go against the grain. I spent about 75 bucks on very pricey MF products from autopia.org. They didn't soak up water enar as well as my 100 percent cotton terry towels, and they didn't seem to do a better job at polishing anything. I got waffle weave, regular, buffing, you name it.

I like to use the waffle weave design m/f towels for polish/wax removal and for cleaning glass. Stoners Invisible Glass cleaner and m/f towels are a great combo for streak free glass.
I prefer the Cobra Ultra Plush m/f towels for drying the car.
They are the greatest invention since peanut butter and jelly. You can use them wet or dry inside the car. They are great when used with detail spray and for use when applying polish and wax. Great for removal also. Go easy with the elbow grease though any heavy arm will put scratches in a finish. Also do not mix the products on the cloth. Use one product per cloth and you should see great results.
I have lots of MF towels with dedicated functions.
I use a Sharpie to label the top left corner of the towels.
I typically use lots of towels for whatever task I'm doing and toss 'em in a clean Home Depot bucket as I go. When the bucket is filled, it's time for the washing machine. (The Glass towels get washed separately from the rest.)
BTW, I use the 25/8 buck el cheapo BJ's Discount MF towels with the tags cut off. I've yet to see any scratching caused by the towels. (I've gotten right down on the paint, side lighting it with a shop light to inspect it.) Prior to using them I did the CD test... vigorously... with negative results.

I have been using the Costco microfiberss they sell - it's $9.99 for like 20? So far so good - no scratches or swirls
A while ago I used to use the sams club MFs for removing the first stage of polish. Now only quality MFs touch the paint of mine or any customers cars. I use ww/MFs from exceldetail.com and poorboys. The DMTs from poorboys are very nice. I use the Sams club MFs for glass and interior work.
Its getting harder and harder to find 100% cotton made in the US towels anymore.
I have had great luck with having streak-free glass by using Stoner Invisible Glass (in the pump bottle) and a MF towel. The Stoner seems to add a little bit of rain-x like coating to the windshield (IMO).
I use some of the "Montery" waffle weave towels from excel detail for drying.
I use the "Blue Supreme" MF towels from excel detail on the paint and the Costco brand MF towels elsewhere.
I have terry / cotton towels to buff the leather after an application of leather conditioner.
