Default Zaino problem

I tape my car when I autocross where the tires will pick up stones and toss them against the paint. I also tape my numbers on. The problem:

I Zaino'ed and now the tape (blue painters tape, 3" wide) won't stick to the car!!

What can I do, short of taking the Zaino off, to get the tape to stick?

This is actually a big problem for me as I don't want to clear-bra and I will have problems with road (autocross?) rash. Suggestions please (and I can see where this thread could go, but if you don't mind, some serious suggestions please).

I do have the clearplastic stuff but it doesn't come close to covering under the front tires so that's not going to do it.

Thanks

Either get some different tape or remove the zaino in that area with 50/50 IPA/water.

Sounds like Zaino is doing its job and then some. Pick up a GM bra for racing, they are cheap and work great. I use one for long trips.

You might cautiously try different colors of painter's tape. Of course try on inconspicuous areas first. There are green and purple painters tapes, and you may find that they are more adherent. Probably a good thing to ask the paint guy at Lowes or Home Depot. But there should be no problem finding the right combination of adhesion so it sticks, but still comes off when you want it to.

You mean cleartastic? The new C6 kit is very good. I have lots of pics on my web page (click on "protection" ) so you can see the areas of coverage. It is a significant improvement over the 2005 C6 kit. Sure, there might still be some areas left uncovered, but it covers the major bad zones. Sounds like you know the product - cleartastic specifically tells you to cover the areas with Zaino before application, so there's certainly no problem with adhesion for Cleartastic and Zaino.

Here it is on the car: unfortunately you can 't see it.

hey - one other idea - I think http://www.madvet.com sells clear plastic stuff that you can cut yourself to any shape -- if you find Cleartastic has inadequate coverage, you can add a few peices of that stuff just on race days. It's ok to overlap it with your cleartastic. But you need to wait 4 hours or more after application for it to dry, so it won't come off.

Guys,

Thanks for the ideas. I'm the only person I know that could get the car all shined up, looking most beautiful, and then have these stupid issues.

Bugman, I've been all over your site. You're the reason for the Zaino and the cleartastic. Thanks a lot!! The Cleartastic doesn't have anything for under and behind the front wheels. I get stuff thrown up clear to the front of the back tire opening so I will try the cut yourself stuff.

Anyone know where to order the GM bra? Need one next Saturday (get to run half track at MMP on Sat. and full track in September, oh yeah).

Another choice would be to go with a semi permanent clear bra like X-Pel sells.

Are you using 3m blue painters tape? I use it on my car when buffing and it seems to stick to Zaino pretty good. Not great but pretty good.

Yes, I'm using the 3M tape. I just opened a new roll. That would be pretty weird if it was just the tape. Thanks for another suggestion.
