Default Microfiber Towels

Posted a question about these about a week ago, asking how you guys like using them. Got six the other day from autogeeks, and with some McGuire's glass cleaner, did my windows. Most fantastic thing I've seen. Crystal clear glass with no stinking streaks! Cant' believe it. These things are awesome, as all you guys said they were. I'll never go back to paper towels and Windex again...EVER. Thanks again for everyone's input on this. I'm learning quite a few tricks from you guys. Great forum.

Just be careful. You drop one on the garage floor and they pick up everything.

So....when they get really dirty, do you just pop them in the washer and dryer? I assume this would be OK. Doesn't degrade their performance, does it? I even used one with the McGuires to clean my mirrors in the house. They haven't looked this good since they were new.

home depot had these on sale last week, 8 bucks for a dozen. I paid more than that for three at autozone last time I was there.

Check out the big box stores for them they sell like 25 for 10 bucks. I had the same revelation with the windows. I bought this armor all window cleaner and used it with paper towels. Came out like shiite. Then one day I tried a micro fiber and I couldnt believe the difference! I dont use anything but micro now. When im Detailing, windows and in a jam I'll use one to dry the car off. I have bought the 8 towels for 10 bucks at Malwart also.

Default Washing Micro-fiber towels

Remember do not use fabric softener when washing ! It will ruin them and your windows and paint.

Toss them in with each other and keep seperate from other clothes and towels. Otherwise, they'll pick up lint, etc.
Also, I don't use any fabric soft liquid or sheets.
Hang dry to reduce static cling. No reduction in performance

I have about 30 micro fiber towels that I use for waxing/detailing my car. I use them once and then wash them in hot water with unscented (Hypoallergenic) detergent. I then wash them twice more in plain water. Yes, I know I'm ****.

I Have Found That The Ones From Sam's Or Cosco-type Big Box Stores Work Just As Well As Those From Boutique Stores For 1/3 The Price. I Wash Mine, And Like Said Before, Just Do Not Use Fabric Softner In The Dryer. Great For Cleaning Dash And Windows. C5 Xtc

For glass try Stoners invisible glass.
Washing MF Towels. I wash in Dawn dish soap hot water, rinse 2 or 3 times and line dry. No fabric softener

I agree, that is normally the case. What brand is everyone using? Someone told me to make sure they were made in the US or they would scratch the paint. I was looking at some microfiber towels at Wal-Mart the other day and they felt like sand paper! Made in China of course. When rubbed across the back of my hand it was almost painful the way it grabbed. There is no way I would ever let one of them touch my black Z!

What do you guys with black cars use for detailing?

I've used the blue ones from Walmart (the thicker nap'd ones that come rolled up in a 2-pack) quite a bit, and haven't noticed any scratching. Granted, I keep the edges folded in away from the paint as much as possible just as a precaution (and try to use light pressure). Something I got in a habit of doing (fwiw) is before using one (I hold it up from the edge and brush through the fibers briskly with finger tips several times - in hopes that if anything's embedded, it dislodges followed by shaking the snot out of it a few times). Anymore, I wonder if more scratches show up due to too much debris being on the paint to begin with (ie. heavy dust, brake pad dust, too firm pressure being used when wiping down, etc.), than the m/f towels themselves cause (right - go figure... wash car, get better results). Yeah, have seen some pretty crappy microfiber (virtually no nap) - WMart sells some of these in packs of 5 or so (I use those for interior, wheels and eng. compart only). Snagged a 25-pack of yellow ones from Costco (will use those for non-paint duty as well). (Sorry for long post).

I use my microfiber towels for removing the wax from my cars. They do a great job of that. For my windows, I use newspaper.

Cobra m/f waffle weave towels and Stoners Invisible Glass cleaner are a great combo for streak free glass.

I have used the ones from BJ's wholesale club with good results. I wash them and reuse.
