Default What a mess

I detailed my 05 vert over the weekend. The last thing I did was to put some Wolfgang tire black gel on all four tires. I let it dry for 24 hours and took a 15 mile drive. When I got back home there were black smudges all over both sides of the car. I had to spend another hour cleaning up the mess. Maybe I did something wrong, but it looked like a disaster. Anyone know what might have gone wrong?

The tire gel won't dry too quickly, if at all. Any excess gel will stay on the tire and then spin off when you drive. I usually wipe the tire down with an old rag.

This is exactly why I use Zaino Z16, no slinging at all and a nice black matte finish.

I have never seen a gel not sling.

I always sparingly apply tire gloss/gel to a tire sponge, or old rag and then wipe the tire. It controls the application so slinging is never a problem.

i always apply too little than too much. you can always add another application after a few hours if you are not satisfied, this way you know the bottom layer has had enough time to dry. kinda like applying paint, gotta do thin layers

Adams VRT will leave your tires nice and black and its not as thick as a gel so it soaks in to the tire better

It is very important when using any gel to follow two rules:

1. Make sure the tire is totally dry prior to its use. Any water in the ribbing will get caught under the gel and will not allow it to dry. Upon using the car, the gel has no place to go but outwards.

2. Never use to much gel. A very thin layer is all that is needed. Most gels warn to wipe the excess with a second towel. I find the little terry cloth wax applicators to be the best at regulating the amount used.

Becareful with the use of water based dressing also. If your tires have had gel products, silicone products, or dye products on them prior, the water based dressings might not settle quickly and dry. As such they also spit ... just in a smaller pattern.

That's the right way of doing it, and not only with gel, but with any tire dressing you use.
