Any Optimum Compound(hyper compound also) comments?
Guys/gals,
I am looking to see if I can reduce some of my costs in the compounding area. Normally, I think you get what you paid for, but I am getting/finding a lot of positive comments about Optimum Hyper Compound and Optimum Compound. I did a search on here and found that AgentF1 made a couple comments about the Optimum products. He said the working time was a bit short, but basically a good product. If anyone, including Frank, would like to add to those comments, I would apprecaite it. The Optimum products are about 50% of what I am paying now for compounds. I am also moving from my wool polishing pad to a wool cutting pad for this step. I have had great success with the wool polishing pad(actually cut very well, but needed a few more passes than I expected to cut 2000 grit sanding) and expect the wool buffing pad(50% twisted/50% straight yarn, blended) to cut a bit faster. I have been using 3M 06060 and 06062. I needed 06060 to really get any cut with the wool polishing pad, so I am going to move to 06062 for sure and would like to try something new.
You should consider the Hi-Temp line of products (from Top of the Line), especially the Extreme Cut. It's very economical and quite effective from what I've seen. Many people like to use it 50/50 with Optimum Polish for heavy defect removal.
I used Optimum Compound a few times via PC and wasn't overly impressed. It might be better with a rotary.

I should clarify that as well. I am going to be using this only when I am doing heavy compounding with my rotary. I expect that I will mostly use it with a wool cutting/buffing pad as well, so I am looking for a product that works well(has good abrasives) and may not last as long as a PC intended product would have too.
While I did not think OC or OHC was a bad product at all I still think you may be happier with the 3m compounds. I forget what each cost but I do not think they are that different in price.

My local 3M dealer is earning the name 'stealer.' I am going to have to look at ordering on-line or finding another location not so locally. For the 06060, I pay $40 locally and I can get it on-line for $30 with no shipping in one case.....
As Zane stated - consider the High Temp Extreme Cut mixed 50/50 with Optimum Polish. I am not certain if the "mix" will give you the cutting ability for up to 2000 but I think it would be worth a try. I have seen quite a few folks using it and have used it myself.
Consider too the Poorboy product line. I have used the heck out of the SSR 2.5. Their product line smells great too.

PB's products are my #1 choice right now with anything I do on the PC. I can't endorse PB's for the rotary, though, as I can't get the results I can with less effort on the 3M compounds.

I use and like the PB 2.5 also but it does not have anywhere near the bite as the 3M products WhiteDiamond is looking for.
