I keep my black 01 vert in the garage under cover. I drive it on nice days. When I take the cover off, I use the california duster on it. Is this ok? When I get done driving I have dust on it and use the duster again, unless it has major dust then I take a wet towel to it followed by a dry microfiber towel. Is there a better way? The car never gets dirty enough to wash. Should I use diferent procedures to eliminate swirls? Should I use something other than water each time I touch up?

I don't care where you live or how infrequently you drive your car, it needs to be washed somewhere along the way. I only cover mine when clean.
If it's not dirty a QD like Z6 is ok, but if it's dirty you are definitely inducing swirls by wiping.
Check out the Zaino line.

I would skip the cover unless you need to protect it from other gargage hazards.
The California Duster is great if you use it very very lightly on dust. It is not for a dirty car.
If the car is dirty then you need to wash it.

If you're dragging a wet towel across it, it's dirty enough to get washed.

I'm not a huge fan of dusters - they just increase the potential.

Just wash it every couple of drives and leave it uncovered, IMO.

I'm not a fan of the California duster. Especially the "real" dirty ones.

Black, as you may or may not know, is the most difficult to keep from developing swirls.

I would wash the car after you drive it and definitely before you put the cover on it. There is more than just dust that builds up on the car during a drive on a nice day. You need to have lots of lubrication to remove whatever is on it. A wet cloth will not cut it.

I wouldn't cover it unless it's sitting for a month plus (there have been posts here that car covers can cause marks on the clear coat). As far as dust, I am not a big fan of simply dragging a wet cloth over it. When mine gets dusty I take it to a wand wash and spray it down and than dry it.
Just my 2 cents.

Waterless Car Washing:
An innovative product that protects automotive paint, while preserving our most valuable resource, water; enabling you to wash your car anywhere, anytime even inside your garage. It’s a multi-purpose product that serves as a shampoo additive, no rinse wash, quick detailer and clay lubricant, dilution rate 2-onces per gallon.

When sprayed on a dirty surface; surfactants break down the soil by releasing its surface tension or bond with the surface, encapsulating the soil particles, and the polymers provide surface lubrication to enable safe (marring free) removal

Methodology
Use a Monster Fluffy Towel for washing. Take one towel and wet it with as per directions. Wring it out and make a single pass per clean side of the towel. You can get 4-8 passes, with the towel folded in quarters. Each pass is then done with a perfectly clean towel surface and you're never rinsing any dirt out and releasing it in to your wash or rinse water. You can do the whole car with 2-4 towels. Apply no pressure to the towel, just glide it over the surface and only make one pass in one direction with a clean towel surface.
