Hi

I am about to detail my Pewter 2001 Coupe for the first time ( it's in excellent shape already ) - here's my plan :

1. wash car with Dawn
2. Clay bar car with the McGuirs kit I picked up
3. Apply Rejex

I'd really like to get that wet look and make this car look awesome - should i put on more than 1 coat of Rejex or use a wax

Any help is greatly appreciated
Bob

Bob, fellow pewter owner. I have used several polish and wax treatments. I just switched from Zaino to Rejex on our 01. I have to tell you it is very hard to get the wet look on silver or pewter. So, you may not get a good answer. I put on my first coat of Rejex two weekends ago and I'm very happy with it. I will put on another coat in a week or two. I don't think you will get that deep build up look you hear about. I use to get it with Zaino on my black car, but could never get it on the pewter.

Hope this help, Vinnie

The more coats of RejeX you use the wetter the shine.

If you're using a claybar, there's no need to use Dawn. The clay will remove prior coats of wax, etc....

I would apply 2 coats to make sure you have even coverage. I've tried applying more than that of rejex and couldn't see a difference in depth or shine.

Make sure you follow the manufacture's instructions and keep it out of direct sunlight, rain, elements for 12 hours for the first coat and 6 hours for the second coat.

If your planning on using a clay bar and also want the best "wet" look, I would suggest you polsih your car after you clay it. A great finish is all in the prep work.....

Wash
Clay
Wash
Polish
Rejex
......And your done.......

An orbital with some Menzerna or Z-PC and a LC orange pad will get the paint right before it's ready to be sealed with Rejex. That polish step is probably the most important step in the process for the best look. Good luck and post some pictures when your finished.....

Light coloured paint:
Lighter colour paints (i.e. Silver, White, etc (the exception is speed yellow) will never obtain jetting (the so called ‘wet-look’) of black or dark colours as they do not exhibit visible depth, light colours tends to refract light instead of reflecting it. You can obtain a good gloss provided the paint is good quality and if it’s prepared and detailed correctly;

The final result can only be as good as the surface it’s applied to. It really is all dependants upon; 85% preparation, 5% product, 7% application method and the balance is in the ‘guy’ of the beholder. (A detailer’s skill level is also extremely important)

Surface preparation – for optimal results the surface of a light coloured paint to show gloss is very much dependant upon good / excellent paint condition, adequately prepped to remove contaminants and minor imperfections. Washed, cleaned, polished and a polymer sealant or a Carnauba wax added

Products- (Zaino, Klasse AIO and SG, Rejex, Jeffswerkstatt - Acrylic Jett) these sealants will provide a flat silvery-white shine, but without ‘depth’. By adding Zaino Clear Seal (Z-CS) or a Carnauba wax as an LSP (Pinnacle Souverän Paste Carnauba or Autoglym Super Resin Polish) the oils that are formulated in the Carnauba waxes provide a reflective gloss, which causes jetting (a ‘wetting’ of the surface)

Detailer’s clay (Sonus SFX Ultra-Fine Detailing Clay Bar) and / or Paint cleaner (Zaino PC or Klasse AIO) should be a regular part of the preparation process.
