I recently purchased a porter cable 7424 and it came with a single white pad. I am going to buff out my car, and I am looking for pads for it. I would like to pickup a few locally but have no idea who might carry them.
First, can you recommend a couple of pads to get and second who might carry them?
Autogeek.net , you are going to need 2-3 orange CCS pads and 2-3 white CCS pads. The pads are manufactored by Lake Country and Autogeek gives you a 10 percent discount if you type in corvetteforum in the coupon code box.
I have Zanio AIO right now, but was thinking about trying some of the Meguires stuff as well. I just have some very light swirl marks and on the passenger side after I took the side moldings off there is a small line where the bottom portion of the side molding was and I want to buff that out as well.
Your going to need some aggressive polishes to cut into the clear coat of the Corvette. AIO doesn't have nearly enough power to dent the clear coat of the Corvette.
I would recommend getting Menzerna SIP and Menzeran FPII from autogeek to go with your pads.

That's good advice.....
Dave, with your new PC and the right pads and the right polish and some patience, your gonna be fine.....
I don't know about the red, but orange is more aggressive than white. You should be able to feel the difference on any of them. I had no luck starting with the white, but most people will tell you to try a section with the white pad first. If you need more aggressive then step up to the orange.
Good luck.
If your interested, shoot me a PM. I have a couple exotics I am detailing this weekend in Tampa. If you don't get the hang over everything, I will probably be driving back to Orlando Sunday night.
I might be able to stop by and help you out, depending on my schedule.
So tell me, what is the most aggressive CCS pad? I've been using this orange pad and it's cutting the swirl marks but is still leaves some behind. Should I just keep going with the orange one or switch to something else?
Also have any of you noticed little pock marks? like little pimples?
Thanks,
Dave

Good your getting some where. Keep working the the orange pad to you get the desired area as swirl free as you want. Make sure you are putting 5-10 lbs pressure on the PC (but the head keeps rotating), use slow overlapping passes until the product turns clear.
After you get the desired level of defects out, switch to the white pad with FPII and go over it to bring out a real high luster.

OK, color me stupid.... what is FPII, is that the Menzerna Intensive Polish? The guy down at the shop told me to start with the Menzerna Intensive Polish so that is what I have been using and I must say, you really have to concentrate on at 2X2 area, work it, and the swirl marks will come out... just takes time and patients...
I do have a few deeper scratches, only 2 so far that I can't seem to buff out... should I hit those with wet sand then buff it or just keep at it?
COOL, I have been using the Menzerna Intensive Polish with the orange pad to cut most of the swirl marks, then hitting the same area with a white pad and the final polish II and getting everything else out... unless of course I have a deep mark still in the area, then I repeat with the orange pad and Menzerna Intensive Polish....
I'm hopping for a glass smooth, mark free, shine when I'm done....
So.. I'm creating a lot of dust should I wash the car again before the last steps?
sounds very good.
yes, on the Vette, you'll rely on the orange pad and Menzerna Intensive Polish.
Keep going over each 2X2 square with that combination until you think the finish is perfect. The Menzerna Final Polish II is just to give a boost to the smoothness and shine after all the actual scratches have been removed by the first step. I have come to prefer Zaino PC fusion for my final polish, and sometimes I'll use it with white pad, sometimes with orange.
You'll make lots of dust - that's why it's often a good idea to mask off emblems, cracks, and crevices with blue painter's tape before you buff.
Just wait until after all the buffing is done, then wash, then apply your sealant.
Question: When i first used used the orange pad, it deformed a little around the edges due to centrifugal force. Now, by the third time, it's even more deformed. I notice that even when the PC is stopped, it is still convex. It appears to contact most of it's width on the car based on the buffing trail, but not sure if it's making really solid contact. I suppose this is normal?! I'm using a 6.5 pad with a "5-inch" pad that really measures out to 4.75".
Anyway, didn't want to start a new thread for this seemingly simple question, and 4 of my favorite expert detailers are all tied to this thread...
[Hard to believe this thread was 6 weeks ago, already. Warnberg....you having good luck with the PC?]
Open your yellow pages and look under Auto detailing supply and Body shop supply. Call the two or three companies and see what they want for pads. It will be much cheaper than ordering online.
