Default California Duster....can you wash it?

Sorry if this is a repeat question, mine is so filthy I was going to throw it away and buy a new one. I will probably buy a new one any way and use the old one just for the daily driver, but can you wash these things and expect them to work as well as before? Wash them.....how?
Thank you all you kind car caring people.

I wouldn't think so. The yarn fibers are coated with a film of paraffin wax which is what "attracts" the dust. Washing one would remove that and it would not work as well as it originally did. For the cost, why not just replace it? Sounds like you got your money's worth out of this one...

They say you can wash it with Woolite I think but I wouldn't. They work better the dirtier they get anyway. If you decide to pick up a new one the new Mega Duster that has fibers all the way around is a nice duster.

The dirtier it gets the better it works.

I've been using the same one since 1994.........it rocks. I bought one of those smaller ones and seldom use it....it sucks!

Why bother? You can catch them on sale for $9.99. Cheap enough to replace.

Take a look at the Griot's garage microfiber duster.
I recently decided to try it and I'm very pleased. Despite dusting with this gizmo even after a short drive (I know I'm going to hell for that), it has caused no scratching for me. And I like the shape better than my old CA-duster.

Also, for this one, you are supposed to wash it when it gets dirty - it's a bit more appealing to me that way.

Default You can wash a new one

After I purchased my new one, I was getting streaks from the parrafin wax, even after laying it in newspaper for several days. I threw it in a bucket with Dawn and washed it by hand. Then I rinsed it several times and let it air dry. It seemed to work great. Since then I continue to use it, and the dirtier it gets the better it works. I just shake it out after dusting each panel.

I washed mine in a microfiber detergent that I use for my detail towels. The amount of dirt that came out was incredible. I know as these get dirtier they get better but I had to wash it twice. Anywasy it is very hard to get off and on. Once it was washed it lost the parrafin wax (or most of it) which does not bother me in the least. The brush is very soft now, it is very clean and when I use it I mist it with a detail spray. I actually like it better now. Good luck

Mine is 20 years old and very dirty. Still works great. I shake it out before and after each use. Good luck

I'm not a fan of them because, to my way of thinking, I wouldn't use a dirty towel to wipe dust off either of my cars (to keep them scratch free).

I understand why people like them.

I applaud you for recognizing that you need to do something.

If you like how it works, you're probably safer to just buy a new one.

However, I have heard that people have had some success using Woolite and cold water to wash them.
