Long story, but I haven't polished my car since August. It was purchased in April, 2001.
From date of purchase to August, I had probably at least 20 coats of Zaino on it. Car looked and felt great. This weekend, I finally got to do the full bit again - Z1, Z2, Z6. Car is only out in the sun about once a week. Up to that point, the car still looked fine, and water was beading. After polishing, the car looked great. Only question is, the back trunk doesn't feel as "smooth" as the rest of the car. It feels a little gritty. I even put 2 additional coats of Z2, Z6 on it, but to no avail. Has the paint oxidized that fast? It doesn't look like it, but just feels like it. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
hi,it sounds like its time to clay your promblem area.clay will make that baby as smooth as silk.sal makes a great clay bar that will do the job.good luck,greg84
It is not oxidation (clear coats are not prone to oxidize) what the gritty feel is a combination of brake dust and carbon (some could be tar specks), most all late model cars get this build up toward the rear due to the low pressure area at the back of the car while the car is moving, the heated brake dust and carbon sticks to the paint like a magnet. All you have to do is get the area very wet and soapy and clay bar it, the clay will slide on top of the Zaino and not remove enough Zaino on one simple claying, I do this on the back of my car when it is not smooth to the touch and then take some Z-6 and finish up the job.

Re: Question for Sal (RodF)
Ditto on what KLO had to say. My car is a daily driver, and it seems like once a month or so a do a quick and easy claying to the rear-end. Keeps all that grit off, and feeling like baby's butt.
Thanks again for this info. I don't have a Corvette any more, but still come back to this for information. I am impressed with the immediate and well-informed responses that I get here.
