I removed my C5s rear deck lid emblem. I wash the area, clayed it, zaino'd it and I can still see where the emblem was. Any suggestions??? My BSMs did not do this to me.
I take it , its the 2000 in the pics above ?? If so, think about this, the emblem was in direct sunlight for 7 years. The paint underneath was protected while the sun's damaging UV rays likely took its toll on the paint. You can try to polish the entire car and try to blend in this area specifically but sometimes its easier to get a new emblem and just reinstall.
A pc7424 is a great tool to have.
I have used orange pad/MIP, followed by orange/ZPC.
You could always start with the ZPC and see if that is strong enough?
it's kind of hard to imagine what could have damaged the paint underneath the emblem. Not likely to have clearcoat marring there, unless you used some abrasive process to remove the emblem. Maybe chemical damage from heat or glue that was applied origianally?
without knowledge of what the problem is, I don't think we can take any guess on how to correct it.
really need at least to see some pictures -- can you post up? far away view and then as close-up as possible would help a lot. Also - what process did you use to remove them?
The car is covered for 6 months a year and covered most of the time after that.
Also, the BSMs did not leave a mark.
As Killr already mentioned it sounds like UV damage. The BSM's are on the sides of the car where the emblems are on top of the car which would be exposed to more direct (intense) UV damage.
Think about it this way. A person laying out in the sun getting a tan. For one hour they lay on their back with their arms next to them, palms facing down. They roll over onto their stomach for a second hour but they place their arms over their head, also palms down. Their stomach and back don't get burned but their arms and back of their hands do. It's because they exposed them to a longer dose of UV rays.
I've had this problem with a motorcycle before. I removed emblems from the side covers (very little or no UV damage) but when I removed the emblem from the rear fender that was flat facing upwards it was very easily seen.
