hmm -- doesn't sound familiar - got a link?
Even though I'm not a big clay fan, don't think it could possibly take me more than about 1/2 hour to do an average car.
? what's the story?
HOLY CRAP !
looks a hell of a lot like my siter-in-law's car.
pretty astounding work ! thanks for the link -- I'll have to save that as a .pdf file. wonder how many hours total?
guy must be retired or something -- there's no one that would pay you $1000 to do that to a VW, and I sure wouldn't do all that work for less than $1000 or so...
Did you see that VW Bora thread where the guy clayed the car for over 4 hours?
Are you going to be OK?
At first, I thought the guy was doing a job for someone. Then I was thinking - Wow, he tears off the grill for painting just like that? After reading more, I get the impression that was a several month project on a car he bought. I think even at a $1000 that would be a bargain for the kind of effort he put into it.
Dude I spent 7 hours claying a 97 Z28 last week. It had nearly 160k miles, 2nd owner, (who knew the 1st owner) and the car had never been detailed. It was white. Except it was soooo bad it looked like someone put pepper in the paint when they painted the car! Looks amazing now though. Had to hit it with the PC after the buffing though.

I can understand a White vehicle taking 'longer' but 7 hours is still CRAZY!! What type of Clay did you use if you dont mind me asking?
anyhow... this guy spent all that time on a 'BLACK' vehicle!! Black is by far the easiest color to clay 'visually'.... I'm also wondering how much f'n MONEY this guy has spent on all the 'boutique' products he was using. I dunno..... this guy may know how to do a proper detail but he could never work for me!! I'd lose a ton of money at that pace!!
well, I've kept quiet about brands of clay, mostly -
but I"ll pile on - - had some bad experience with Zaino clay, so I don't use it either. Can't live without their other products.
My only non-marring experiences so far have been with Sonus Green clay. I'll stick with it -- seems to cause no harm, which is my first goal when detailing. My clay needs are very mild and infrequent.
