Got some new waffle weave microfibers from Autogeek for Christmas...should these be washed prior to using, or are they good to go out of the packaging?
As a rule, I always wash new towels before use. Most manufactures recomend this, plus it's a saftey factor. Who knows what dirt particals might be in them.

Hopefully washing them separately, and when drying, no fabric sheets.
Also, I have heard that you should only use liquid detergent. The granules in powder detergent can get into the cloth, and cause problems if it doesn't dissolve completely. Maybe this is true, or maybe not, but I try to err on the safe side, and only use liquid detergent.Washing with cotton materials creates lint particles stuck to the microfiber too, so separate them.
I also put them through two rinse cycles, and add a shot or two of vinegar to the rinse water to help balance the alkalinity and release the soap from the fabric. Call me nuts, but I don't put them through the dryer. I'm [probably unrealistically] concerned about the previous dryer load's fabric softener sheets possibly leaving a coating on the inside of the drum, as well as the heat affecting the microfiber. So, I just hang to dry in the garage, most of the time.

Although heat output from a domestic dryer will not harm / melt Microfiber I wash / dry exactly the way you've suggested
