I have very fine swirl marks that were on my new 06 from all the washings while at the dealership. bought my car in Aug 07. This now drives me crazy and now I obsessed with a mirror finish. I've been gaining info. today online.
What do you think about Z-pc with Lc-white (or orange?) pad on a
Pc7424 followed by one coat of Z-5 with zfx added. Then mist with Z-6 after hand buffing of Z-5. Finishing up with 1 or 2 applications of Z-2.
I'm looking to order all the above items soon, so I can started ASAP. ANY IDEAS, PROBLEMS OR SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME.
I have read enough to understand that my old milwalkie 7" professional rotary buffer is problematic in the hands of a non professional. It worked great on my work truck years ago. But not for my vette.
Slammer
If you're wanting 100% perfection and perfect mirror reflective shines, you'll definately need to brush up on your rotary skills. Vette clear coats are extremely hard and if swirls are deep enough, you'll need serious ammo to knock them out with.
Zaino has tons of great products, but for serious swirls I would recommend something with more bite like Menzerna SIP or IP with an orange pad on a rotary to remove swirls, then follow up with a white pad and IP, check your work with some 500W halogens and if it's up to your standards, then the ZPC with a white pad would be more fitting as prep for Zaino sealants.
I'm a little shy about using a rotary like I said it worked ok on my work truck but I'm worried about burning the finish. Heard it can be pretty easy in untrained hands. Maybe as you suggested I will try stronger cut abrasive (SIP) and an LP orange on the PC7424 just to be a bit safer. The work lights are a good idea. I had visions of pulling the car in and out of the sun. what a goof!

The sun is the best judge of workmanship, but if it's cloudy at all you won't see anything.
Why is it any different now then when you worked on your dad's truck?
The easiest ways to burn paint would be holding it in one spot and going over heavy on angled and curved areas....
Why not try out the vette with a soft pad and polish with the rotary to ensure you dont' screw anything up and get the feel for it again?
I too highly suggest SIP / 106FF from Menzerna as the proper combo for the Vettes clearcoat. It works well with PC too. You then can use the sealant of your choice and will love that reflective shine !
Thanks Everyone For Your Help. Today I Ordered Menzerna Po106ff A Pc 7424 With A 6" Hook Style Backer Plate And A Couple Orange Pads Made For Fiberglass Use 7 1/2". Also Talked Into Synthetic Clay Bar Package. Not Too Sure If I Really Needed It.
