I used to spend lots of time using Zaino, Pinnacle, Klasse, etc. The cabinate is pretty empty now and I just bought a new black Honda Ridgeline. Unfortunately, it was dealer prepped, so it is going to have some issues.
I wanted to try something new over the counter, and on a budget, and see what I can achieve. Here is the plan..
Clay bar
3M 39009 with a PC and CCS orange pad
3M Performance Finish with a PC and CCS grey pad
I may follow up with either something I have (Collinite Marque D'elegance, Collinite, or S100) by hand
Any advice? I have never used the 3M Performance Finish before, so I wanted to give it a go.
I understand what you are trying for, but you can make the argument that Z is even better for your situation now.
I have gone to using Z on my DD's, and it does a great job and is cost effective. I recently used it on my Wifes 8 yr old Maxima, and it looks great for what it is.
Good luck.
I was going to try the 3M performance. Wally's has it for like $12. For the same price, I got from one of the autoparts store some DuraGloss 111. Killer told me DG111 was better and at the same price. Only trick, or so he says (and I'm sure is right) is you apply the DG on the whole car as thin as possible (hand or PC) and have to let it sit for at least 30 minutes before removing.
If your car has dealer-induced swirls, I don't think 39009 is going to do the job. It's also not aggressive enough to use with an orange pad IMO. Since you want to do this on a budget, I would strongly suggest looking into the Poorboy's line of products. SSR2.5 + SSR1 is a great combo that will tackle most jobs out there.
