I am just new to the detailing game, so new that I just received my Porter DA and autogeek orders last night.
My question is:
Should I always clay the car first prior to attempting the swirl removal process?
Where can I find what color pads to use for what? What section of the car should I start out so that it does not show too much if I screw it up....the car is black in color.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
do the baggie test put your hand in one a rub over your paint if you feel any contamination you need to clay .... wash your car after claying you dont want to pick up any little particles with your polisher.practice on a beater not your vette .the pc da is fairly easy to learn .visit the autogeek site lots of info on pads .
As offered claying is usually best once or twice a year at most. If you are doing this for the first time as part of the process then yes take the time. We offer a lighter ultra clay under Pinnacle if you want to clay more often.
As far as the coloring of the pads, they will show abbrasive levels. If using Lake Country (Wolfgang pads) they go yellow (most abrasive), orange (very abrasive), white (medium), grey (light ), blue (finishing).
More often than not you should start with polish and white pad. Move to more abrasive pad only as needed. If you move to orange, then use same polish and white once done to remove any light micro marks. Then hit it with a finishing polish and finishing pad to really jewel up the finish.
