Well I finally talked myself into ordering the flex polisher kit with the bag and pads. I have tried to remove some scratches with the PC and made them less noticable but hope to finally get the job done now. Will probably be leaning on you guys for help as well.
I'm pretty happy with my pc, but if I were buying today it would definitely be the flex.
When funds improve I might spring for one.
Let us know how you like it, and good luck.
I just ordered a PC....
What polishes were you using with yours that weren't completely removing them?
I used the Menzerna SIP first with a orange 6.5 pad but later switched to a smaller orange pad which worked pretty good. My paint is in pretty good shape but there are 4-5 noticeable scratches that I haven't been able to remove as of yet.
Thanks, I will do that. I have seen some threads about the backing plate problems on some units, has that issue been resolved? Anyone still having problems? Thanks for your reply.
Yes, please report back on how easy/difficult it is to use. I am adding one to my holiday wish list and am just a beginner. I've never used an orbital buffer or any machine to do detail work on a car. It's always been done by hand. I want to change that but am a little anxious about my "first time."
their has been an issue with a couple of backing plates ...however most newer units have not experienced it at all. Keep the backing plate tight and considering oiling the felt ring under backing plate as wanted.

OK that was what I had been reading on the forum oil the felt ring. Thanks I will let you know how I like the new machine.

I will report back when I get some time with the flex polisher . It is a little nerve racking the first time you try it but at least with the PC you really have to be trying hard to mess up. Pretty easy to use. Later
So is anyone selling their old used PC now? I know you guys use them hard, but being the fair hearted man I am, I will gladly give you the acorns littering... I mean blessing my front yard and $5 to cover shipping. Just send the PC and all pads, polishes, sealants, waxes, old money, etc... to:

I had a chance this afternoon to use the Flex polisher I just bought. I had a few light scratches on the top and trunk. The car is TR 03 Z. I already had some mezerna SIP so I went at it. It took me a while to get used to the right speed, pressure and time to work the polish. After some time I began to see the scratches get lighter and lighter. I started with the orange pad with SIP and the polisher on speed 5. I got a little braver and went to speed 6 and began to get quicker results. I finished with the mezerna polish 106 on the white pad speed set on 3,followed by Wolfgang 3.0 applied by hand and removed with microfiber. As some others have said the Porter Cable is a decent polisher but the Flex is faster and will enable you to correct more paint problems. Overall I am well pleased with the Flex. When I finish I will try to post some pics of the car.
Maybe I'm missing it, or looking at the wrong thing... do you mean there's a video comparing the PC to the Flex? Or are there only the videos of the PC and light/intermediate swirl/scratch removal? If there's an overview video on the orbitals in general, or comparing them, can you link directly to it?
I'm on the fence about what to get, as I've never used a power detailing tool before. I've got one light scratch on my front bumper that I'd like to work on (stupid garden hose uncoiled in the garage and smacked the bumper), some holograms from delivery, and the rest are just very minor swirls and water etchings. Is hologram removal the same as swirl removal?
