Default Wool pads

I have a 6" (maybe like 7") wool pad at the house that came with my kit a few months back. I have yet to use it as I always start with the orange LC pad when polishing. What is the benefit of the wool pad over the orange pad? Does the wool pad have a better cut?

Thanks

Are you using a PC or Rotary?

Wool runs cooler then foam and cuts faster.

I think it's an 8". I often use the wool pad if the paint is in pretty bad shape. You'll need to follow up with some foam pads to remove any hazing or buffer trails the wool leave behind. The idea is to start out with the least aggressive method.

I have a PC.

So the wool is an aggressive cut and should only be used for really bad conditions

Yes but,.........

Wool pads are better suited for rotaries.........

Stick with foam pads if a PC is your only machine. The motion of a PC does not take advantage of the wool pad's strength.......

I can offer this...

I have a PC and use a combination of 4" foamed wool purple pads, as well as the orange foam pads, for when I need some more aggressive correction. I can definitely tell a difference between foam and wool, even on a PC. The wool works a bit faster, but leaves more hazing behind. If I'm having trouble removing some particular issue with the orange foam, the wool pad generally assists and gives me slightly better results. Which is fantastic for a mere PC. To get rid of the hazing, I follow up with either the orange pad again, but I've also noticed I can clear the hazing with a white pad and nano polish. I guess I go by each situation as it comes, as to what pad(s) I ultimately need. But the main thing is that I do notice a difference between the wool and the foam pads on a PC.
