I just 'inherited' a hardly used PC 7424, but it has no pads or cleaning/buffing pads or clean/wax products. I started researching pads, waxes, etc., but feel a little overwhelmed by the magnitude of product choices available.

Can someone please give me a little guidance as to how many and which color pads I should buy as a starting purchase? Are many of these different brand pads compatible with the PC?

How about waxes? If I chose Zaino for example, which of their products should I have in hand when I start? I don't want to sound like I'm favoring Zaino ... please consider it only an example.

With both items I'm asking about, is there a packaged kit that I should shop for?

Someone's going to ask what I'm trying to accomplish ... for starters, I just want a better-than-average dd that looks like it did when it was closer to 'new'. With todays' products, it'll probably look better than that with some effort on my part.

Thanks for your input.

As stated earlier I'm a weekend driveway "buffer". I have one orange pad I've used for years. I use Griots water based polishes (they wash out of the pads nicely) because that happens to be what I have and have not run out yet. (I also have many bottles of Meguiars polishes I've collected over the years)
I have a green "Polish/Finish" Lake Country pad (they make two types of "green") I use for applying Zaino AIO (all in one). I finish with a hand applied layer of Z5.
I'd love to try out some of the newer polishing products but I have to use up some of my existing "chemicals".

I was in your shoes last year; I had so many questions and not enough answers, so I posted a thread here, which turned out to generate some of the most amazing, informative responses I've ever seen. in particular, look at TH0001's post, a few replies down. This thread needs to be a STICKY!!!

Anyway you'll find a LOT of answers... since then, everything had made a lot more sense, and I can creat amazing results with my PC.

Definitely excellent info in the previous link.
Can't comment on my new flex as I have not used it yet, but I did get it to replace the PC.
I like Menz SIP for a more aggressive polish, Zaino ZPC for a finer polish, then Z sealants.
THIN is in with Z products!!
SIP, ZPC, by machine, multiple coats of Z5, and Z2 by hand, ZCS, Z8 =

Similar regimen to what I do. I alternate on the finer polish between ZPC and Menzerna FP....but if I was to buy new polish, definitely buy Menzerna 106FA.

Call Autogeek, and order at least 2 orange Lake Country pads, at least 2white pads, Menzerna SIP, Menzerna 106FA, and some microfiber towels to remove the polish. That's all you need for basic paint correction. You could add pad cleaner, but to me it smells like 409 (I still use it, though, but probably won't reorder). You could also order pad spray to keep it moist, which I got as part of a package, but others just use a spritz of distilled water.

Then order a good sealant from Autogeek, or from Zaino (my preference).

http://www.autogeek.net/menzerna-cer...nish-kit-.html

you want this kit and add the wax or sealant of choice, I would suggest Pinnacle or Dodo Waxes.
