Where can I buy a simple clay bar? Pep Boys has the largest selection of car products of any stores here in the area but the only thing they sell is a "clay bar kit" that comes with a bunch of junk that I don't need for $16.95.
Does Walmart, Kmart, Target or any auto parts stores that anyone know of sell just the single clay bar?
Personally, I have only seen the claybar kits offered in stores such as Pep Boy's, etc., not individual claybars.
Th Mother's Claybar kit is very respectable and should perform very well for you, but I know what you mean about not needing certain items that come in the kit. The Mother's kit comes with the Mother's quick detailer and a small bottle of cleaner wax. Now, while I personally have no use for the cleaner wax, I did find the QD useful when using the clay. Their QD is not carnauba based, if that is a concern for you.
You could always pass the cleaner wax along to a friend or something. All in all, I don't think that the kit is a bad way to go.
A clay bar alone is gonna cost more than the kit that Pep Boys offers. Just toss the extra stuff or wax the garden tractor with it. The bar in the kit is 100grams, and an individually wrapped bar is 200 grams but priced at $24-$30. If you can find the individually packaged bars, buy 'em and just cut them in half and you'll get two bars and end up with a tiny bit of $ saved. I've been using the clay since long before it was available to the general public. The blue bar from Clay Magic is the best one I have found by a long shot. I have not tried the Zaino bar but have tried nearly every other one. The Griots yellow bar is o.k. but extremely soft and only good for a couple of uses. The Mothers bar seems almost too stiff and leaves a lot of residue on the paint afterward. With careful use, the blue clay will do 10-20 clay jobs before it gets soft and (or) dirty. Have fun!

Try an automotive paint store - they carry the clay bar by itself. As someone else said, though, it'll cost you $25 or so. But, the bar is 200 grams compared to 100 grams sold at retail.
