Default Yellow pad??

Used my new Flex with Orange pad, Menzerna SIP on 2002 Black vert last night. Did the hood and headlights only. Worked pretty well. This Vette clearcoat MUST be superhard. Got 90% of scratches out...There are a few remaining that must be a little deeper into the clearcoat...What are your thoughts about moving to a Yellow pad?? would this be too aggressive..especially on Black..Thank you for any input...Tom

Here are my thoughts....and I'll state them as clearly as possible:

DON'T DO IT

My yellow pad goes on my backing plate to help stop it from deforming while pushed this way and that against my detailing bag. That's the best use I've found for it. If you don't believe me, at least try it on a beater first. The yellow pad is too aggressive, and possibly may create marks that only a rotary can remove. Instead, just go over the remaining swirls with the orange pad a few more times. And....if the marks are that deep, you probably wouldn't be able to remove them with a yellow pad anyway, but then will cause all kinds of problems on the rest of the surface.

Good luck.

I too suggest a big no-no on Random Orbitals and yellow Lake Country Pads. If it wont work with orange, move to a more abrasive polish or in some cases a wool cutting pad.

I would recommend the purple foamed wool pad over the yellow cutting pad for your next step. The purple foamed wool pad is great because you get a lot of cutting power but it still finishes down pretty good. I would still recommend following up with at least one, but probably two more lighter polish and pad combos.

This is the first time I've ever heard anything bad about the yellow, can you elaborate?

Sometimes several passes are necessary to clean things up.........One complete pass on a hood with SIP and an orange pad can do well, another offeres more improvement and so on......

Determining up front what is necessary and working your way down with milder polish and pads is the key to bringing out the best finish.....

I'd hit it again with SIP at least once to see what that does on a quarter of a panel.....Check your work in certain areas to determine what's necessary for the rest of the car.......

Purple wool is a better option that yellow foam. It's a cooler running application and much easier to handle, yellow foam is grabby and is harder to work with in general.......

Good luck......

The yellow pad when used with a PC leaves alot of micromarring and halograms that are a pain to remove. We also offer the purple wools and I highly suggest it prior to using yellow on PC's and G110's.
