They can last many years when stored properly (in bag outside of dirty/dusty areas). The key is to use them on light dust only, not abrasive contaminents like pollen. Some suggest they work better with time.

The older they get the better they work. I have one that is over 20 years old and it works just as good as the new Mega Cali Duster I recently bought. That said it has been taken care of and is always stored in its original bag etc and shaken out after each use.
