backing pad longevity

Purchased the Porter Cable and accessories from AG 5 years ago and still going strong

However after a lot of use I noticed the edges of the Hook & Loop flexible backing plate looks a little frayed. Do these wear out? lose their gripping power? easy enough to buy another but wondering.

Sounds like it is time to replace it. I as a pro, go through backing plates a little faster.

The grip is much better on a new plates!

glad to see and hear your products are still going strong. Unfortunately backing plates do seem to wear out over time and need replacement. I replace mine when the seem to be less flexible (like they hardened) or when the rubber starts to give out. (little crumbles). Also check around the area where the center stack is attached to the plate and if you see any damage then replace as safer than allowing it to fly off at high speed across your finish.
