Autogeek Question - Detailing Tape?
Autogeek - Getting ready to order the Blackfire swirl removal kit, do you recommend using detailing tape? If so, which one? I don't want my rubber trashed from the tape nor the product and personally I have never used tape - not to say I should of! What do you say?

In the past I have used the 3M blue painters tape. But the new tapes with the "edge lock" technology should NOT be used on rubber materials. They can have a strange chemical reaction with the rubber.
At this point I will only use detailers tape and I use the detailers tape from Adam's. Great stuff and usually can be pulled off and used more than once.

Former Vendor
Alot of clients use painters tape which can be found at many local retailers, some are sold with no residue and worth the extra dollars.
3M makes a great tape also, and can be found at most painters stores or we can ship you some as desired. It comes in several sizes too.

3m blue also has a delicate tape in their line up which is not as sticky as regular blue but will come off very easily and do no harm to any surfaces. Never tried detailers tape, but 3m regular painters tape is good also.

Try the delicate tape that I mentioned in the above post. If you have a Sherwin Williams paint store near you they usually carry it. It's made to be applied to drywall, wallpaper, delicate surfaces. It has an orange color to the inside of the roll.
