Try some Z-12 Clear-View Glass Polish. It is an abrasive product that removes water spots. Be sure to follow up with your favorite spray-on glass cleaner.

What finally worked for me was C L R.... But don't use to much of it, cause it cane be pretty hard to get off itself and don't get it all over your hands, or your paint, it's pretty strong stuff!!
I had tried just about everything and was beginning to believe that my spots were something permanent in the glass. But it had cleaned up some bathroom fixture that I also thought were hopeless. Tried it on my glass and was amazed...

What is C L R ??
I get it at hardware stores... It's made for cleaning Calcium Lime and Rust (hence the CLR name... cute huh?) from glass, porcelain, ceramics, metal, brick etc... (NOT for use on marble, wood or aluminum) used mostly to remove stains and hard water marks in sinks, bathtubs, toilets, bathroom fixtures, etc.... It did such a good job on removing hard water stains in my shower, I tried it on the impossible-to-get-off stains on my car windows and could not believe that something actually go those spots out.

The instructions say to wear rubber gloves, so it does contain some serious, very acidic, chemicals. I rubbed it on fairly hard, but at the same time, with a fairly light coat and let it haze.... then it took several times of soaking it with windex to get it off, but... WOW.... I had used every glass cleaner known to man for 2 years, without sucess... It was so frustrating, I thought my only hope was to try a glass polishing grinding wheel, so I'm very happy I tried this first. I just feel a bit silly, because I had it around the house all that time and it just never occured to me to try it on the car windows.... duh.... ha!

Be careful to avoid getting CLR on the paint finish. :yesnod:

If white vinegar and CLR haven't removed it, I'd guess it is acid rain etching.

You can try polishing it out with a windshield polish kit (Eastwood Company). Are there any spots on the paint as well?

You can purchase a small hand held magnifier (30 X) from Radio Shack. Try that and look at the spots carefully - are they above the surface (water spot) or recessed into the surface (acid etching) with a textured appearance?

Oh wow... you must have something pretty serious going on if that stuff didn't work... "forrest" is probably on to something as for the next step!!
It is looking like you may be looking along the lines of polishing next!!

Sorry the CLR didn't work out, at least now you have it for bathroom fixtures!!! ha!! I am very happy that it solved by automotive water spot problem, I hope your problems are not actually etched into the glass, but at least you still might have solutions that stop short of actually replacing the glass...!!

Thanks for your suggestions with my problem. Strange, but the paint is flawless. Have 20+ coats of Zaino on the paint. Maybe the Zaino saved the paint. However, my truck has the same problem with the windows. No Zaino on the truck & the paints looks good. I'm sooooo confused!  :mad :mad :mad

To date, I have tried Eagle, Stoners, Ammonia, CLR , Widex, etc, etc, etc. NOTHING worked. I ordered Z-12 glass polish a few days ago & it arrived today. I applied numerous coats of Z-12 (took me 3 hrs.) and the windshield is now 95% clean. Several more coats tomorrow should do it. Although Z-12 isn't the easiest product to work with, it's the ONLY product that was able to remove the hard water spots!! :D :D

Try Bon-Ami. It is a non abrasive cleanser. Will not scratch the glass.
