I have old, faded and cracked pinstriping that produces particles or dust when approaching with a buffer. I'm not sure if that would introduce particles that could scratch the paint while waxing/buffing or if it is too fine to cause problems. Also, is there a way to 'restore' the pinstriping so it doesn't do this? Thanks!
To be clear: is it a painted on pin stripe or a tape one ?
3M makes a kit you could probably pick up at your local auto parts store ... its calld the 3M 7498 Stripe off wheel - just follow the instructions and it works great = you use it with your drill
Sometimes, really really old pin stripes can leave a kind of an etching .... sometimes the stripe comes off clean

It is very thick to be painted. Most of it is double straight line pinstriping with a couple of intricate areas, so, I dunno. I don't really want to REMOVE the striping, just sort of recondition it so it doesn't disintegrate when buffing, throwing a messy powder-like substance on the car.
But if it won't hurt to be mixed in with the wax or sealant, I can live with it until I scrape enough off so it doesn't do that anymore.
