I recently purchased a set of TSW Nurburgring wheels in the matte gunmetal finish. I've never had a set of matte finished wheels before and normally use a wheel sealant for easy clean up. Searching online it seems normal wheel sealant isn't recommended and TSW recommends using soap and water for clean up.
I've come across people either recommending Chem Guys products or Adams quick sealant spray and super VRT. Are there any other matte finish sealants that are reasonably priced? Also what kind of spray wheel cleaner would be safe for matte finish wheels to clean them real good and apply more sealant when the brake dust gets caked on?
The matte finish isn't too rough at all compared to some truck wheels a friend has. The outside wheel finish is very consistent even over the outer lip by the tire bead. On the inside of the wheel the finish isn't so consistent around the lip of the wheel and the back side of the spokes is very thin showing the whiteish surface below.
For a cleaner, you really have three options as far as how dirty they truly are:
Soap and Water for light cleaning
Green Wheel Cleaner for a little more power
Deep Wheel Cleaner for a LOT of brake dust or grime
Either of those wheel cleaners will be safe for your TSWs, provided you use them when the wheels are cool and you don't allow any cleaner to dry on the surface.
For a sealant, Quick Sealant is a great option since it' optically clear. It won't leave any white/chalky residue on a matte black surface, and will offer months of protection before another application is needed.
