Default Polished Alum/Chrome Cleaner?

Can anyone reccommend a good cleaner for my C6 Z's factory wheels? Also need something for my Silverado's chrome grille/bumper...

The wheels have clear coat applied from the factory unless someone has removed it. Unless the clear has been removed there is no way to "Polish" the wheel. If the clear coat is removed then depending on what shape the wheel is, I would start with Mother's billet polish and then Mother's aluminum polish. You might want to get a powerball buffer attachment for a drill motor to speed things up. Have plenty of cheap microfiber towels to wipe down the wheels after each pass (The polish residue will ruin the MF towels). Worst case have the wheels professionally reconditioned at about $150 each. They can restore the wheels to perfect condition and clear coat for longevity.

You asked for a "polished aluminum/chrome cleaner". That is, most likely, why cmonkey713 gave the advice he did. If your aluminum wheels still have clearcoat on them, the cleaner you use is car soap. LOL

awe ok so no need for anything special? This is my first run without painted wheels. I’m assuming without special care they’ll eventually develop a haze?

My past 3 or 4 sets of custom wheels have been clearcoated. Here is what I do:

1) Spray with a brake dust remover (I use "Brake Dust Professional")
2) Wash with regular car soap and a microfiber mitt
3) Protect with a designated wheel wax or sealer (I use Finish Kare 1000P)

I clay the clear coated wheels on the two vehicles I have with this type finish and apply a coat of sealant. I remove my daily driver wheels once a year and thoroughly clean and clay bar them.
My vette wheels are chrome and I just wipe them off with a damp microfiber each time I drive it and keep them coated with sealant.

Be careful about using any acidic cleaner on the wheels, which is what a lot of wheel cleaners are. I prefer to use Ph balanced soaps as I do on the car body.

Default Polish

I use maguiars plastix.removes cloudiness, yellowing, oxidation & fine scratches. Leaves a protective film. Works good on headlights, tail lights.

If no clear coat, Mothers et al works fine.
Semi Chrome really is aggressive.

If clear coated, clay bay, mild polish, wax.
I have not found the wheel specific (heat resistant) waxes lasting any longer than regular wax.

Have fun.
