Default random orbital buffers

still reading about buffers and still finding it somewhat confusing . the porter cable 7424 xp for example , one needs to buy a velcro backing plate and counterweight [ 5'' ?] and various pads [ foam , microfiber , wool ?] and not sure i'd buy best choice in each case . also this makes a reasonably priced tool somewhat expensive . also soon be 79 and don't know how much longer i could use it . wife has four cars , including two c 5 vettes , and i do all the cosmetic care on them . they look really nice with just what i do to them . lastly , using either the wolfgang or adams rinseless car wash i'm not sure i'll ever wax a car again as they look good and shed dirt quite nicely . thanks for listening , all comments welcomed and most will be appreciated . actually , you folks have not steered me wrong yet , thanks . . peace

Check out this link & video, the long throw polishers are more comfortable to use, the PC is a nice machine but it will leave your hands tingling from the vibrations. That being said if you can get past that it will do a good job.

After viewing let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks for looking!

Griot's six inch orbital DA with 5.5" pads and vented 5.5" backing plate. Killer machine with lots of torque for $150.00.

I have the Harbor Freight DA and is more powerful than the Porter Cable. Change the grease in the unit and it a good DA
There are some good demos of the unit on U tube

Since I went cordless with the Griots unit, my Porter Cable and Flex are collecting dust.

I love the Swirl Killer by Adam's. Very easy to use. Their corrective compounds do an amazing job. Spend the extra and get a decent tool. My recommendation is to invest a little in some good lighting. If you can't easily see the fine lines you can't remove them.

Really depends on your use level. If just your personal vehicles and you plan to do your own wash/dry, you can get away with just about any decent DA. I have a high use need for polishers, so my FLEX 3401 is an absolute go to machine and I follow with various Rupes tools. The FLEX is an amazing machine and can basically eliminate the need for a circular polisher with the right pad and polish combo.

Agreed. I use my Flex exclusively for paint correcting and only use the PC for spreading LSP’s. PC just doesn’t have the power.

One last tool I have is my Milwaukee Tool M12 angle drill. The thing works perfectly with the small 3 inch backing pad and small pads for focused scratches when you need a true forced rotation. Just be sure to follow up with your Flex because it will leave holograms

PC is great, however if going to use on a rare occasion its best to pay a detail shop. Just had a full paint correction that included the wheels and engine bay detail -$550. Hours of work and cost of good product..its worth paying for every 2 yrs.

I did my own math last year. $550 bought me a lot of products, including my Porter Cable 7424XP, polishing and finishing pads, polishes, sealants, waxes, detail spray, microfiber towels, etc. I can keep both of my vehicles looking perfect as often as I like, and on my own schedule. I get what you are saying, but there is a LOT of satisfaction in doing the detailing yourself!

The HF unit is a very nice machine for the money. It is a little noisy compared to other machines but has nice torque and works well. For $50 you can't wrong. Later you may want to upgrade to a Flex or another professional machine.

I've watched so many videos that with a DA polisher you can't screw things up.
