a couple questions
can you polish the wind Shield (in the bright sun yesterday you can see little pits)
what do you use -
can you damage the glass make it worst by polishing?
I have a buffer - but don't want to make it worst, but looked bad in the bright sun
Can you? Yes. Depending how deep they are you can remove minor pitting to a degree. Glass is best polished with cerium oxide. It is possible to distort if overly done. A relatively safe product is Cerise’s-Glass from CarPro. You will want to get a glass pad ( Lake Country has them. Also good for minor spotting as well. Cerium oxide in a powder that you mix with some H2O is more aggressive . I would not expect to remove all but very minor pitting. In some cases by the time you spend to buy product and remove- it’s easier to replace. I have a fleet service contract and rarely pay more than $200 and he comes to me. I mainly only do spot corrections as it’s not worth the time.
My experience is if a windshield is sand pitted where you can feel the pits it will not polish out. The best suggestion would be take it to a good auto glass shop that polishes glass and have them give you an opinion.
While this is not a polish, windshields over time develop a coating of oil, dirt and other things from the road that normal car wash products don't do a good job of removing.
I've used Bon Ami, a product sold at grocery stores. Its a powder you sprinkle on a damp microfiber cloth and rub on the glass. It will not scratch glass. Bar Keepers' Friend is similar product that does the same thing. Both are sort of an abrasive that will not scatch glass and do a great job of removing the stuff that builds up on windshield over time. Highly recommend. Whatever you do, DO NOT use Comet. It will scratch glass.
My biggest issue is bugs hitting at highway speeds. I use a "glass pad" on my cordless Griot buffer with RainX squirted on. Buff off the stray bugs and then buff. I'm now ready for the next rain or bug storm!
The white wool pads for glass and glass polish can work for some minor ones, but be careful. I have done it successfully on my daily driver.. but anything too deep go to a pro
