Default Window Cleaner

Maybe I have overlooked but what is the best window cleaner or mix to eliminate streaks and film on the windows especially the front? I am honestly out of time to order something so it has to be something I can go purchase locally or mix.

Thanks in advance

There is no "best" glass cleaner. There is only the best method to clean them. I have a LOT of glass cleaners in my arsenal. Meg's, 3D, Sprayway, Stoners, etc. Do you know what I use most often to clean all my windows inside and out? Waterless wash or detail spray. I mean, literally, as long as your windows aren't absolutely filthy from cigarette smoke, almost any liquid used for light cleaning works well. The key is the way you clean the windows. I use a dedicated waffle-weave glass-cleaning towel to do the cleaning, then follow up with a dry short-nap microfiber towel to wipe off the remaining streaks or haze. Done. That's it. Perfectly clean and clear glass. Don't overthink it. Just like a "two towel" method works best when applying detail spray or spray wax to your paint, the same technique works well on your windows.

Another tip is to apply a spray sealant to the inside of your windshield after you clean it. It helps the windshield stay cleaner longer, makes it easier when you do clean it, and helps reduce fogging. I usually use something that smells nice, too. Bead Maker has been my go-to for the inside of windows.

Forget everything anyone has ever told you about streak-free windows and glass. I have tried everything including the "wonder" towels a vendor here sells as a "miracle"...forget them! Newspaper...no! Microfiber...no!

I have tried everything including the "wonder" towels. Nothing works but what I am going to share here. Use the below and forget it. I guarantee you will get perfect, streak free windows, both inside and out. One very, very, very important key is NOT to wash your towels using fabric softener or Bounce Dryer sheets. These both contain oils which will get on your towels and smear the glass no matter what you do. You cannot have either of these products on your towels when you clean your windows.

Also, DO NOT use any of your glass cleaning Husk towels when you are cleaning house. Any furniture spray, Pledge, etc., will not completely wash out of the towel leaving smears on your glass when you go to clean them. These tips are both MANDATORY or you will not have streak free windows!

SURGICAL BLUE HUSK TOWELS. These are incredible! You can get them for next to nothing on EBay. Used are fine. The older they get the better they work. I have some that are 20 years old and still work perfectly! Use them ONLY for your glass. If you use them with Armor All, Aerospace 303, Furniture polish, Pledge, etc., to clean your interior, all of the product will not wash out leaving you with smudges and streaks on your glass!

STONER INVISIBLE GLASS SPRAY. Available at Home Depot, Auto Zone, Checker Auto, Pep Boys, etc. About $6 a can.

STONER 95161 INVISIBLE GLASS REACH AND CLEAN TOOL. There are other brands out there. Griot's sells one as well. They are available on EBay. ONLY BUY ONE THAT HAS A TRIANGLE HEAD! Other companies make one with a square head. They use a blue microfiber bonnet. Do not use these...period!

This is it folks! The big secret is not to wash any windshield/glass washing towel in the washing machine with fabric softener. Don't ever use a Bounce Dryer Sheet in the dryer when you dry your Husk towels. Both of these contain oil which will smudge your windows! Don't believe me....go rub one of the dryer sheets between your fingers and feel the oil left behind.

Definitely forget buying one of those "miracle" cloths. WASTE!

This works very well.

I've tried a variety of glass towels & cleaners over the years, including the Zep cloths & surgical 'husks'. In the end, once someone showed me the 2 towel method, apply small amount of cleaner to 'application' towel as opposed to glass, follow up with clean towel, the frustration went away.

A twisted loop Gyeon Silk mitt is what i use now, no bunching up or floppy towel concerns; spray cleaner on one side, clean, flip hand/mitt and clean up with dry side.

Great minds think alike. I use a Griot's MF mitt in the same fashion. Only $8 to boot!

Just one extra suggestion. I have been really happy with the two-sided microfibers designed for glass cleaning. Adams (and others) have them. One side is is a more "rough" weave while the other is quite smooth. After spraying on the cleaner I use the rough side to wipe off the glass and then flip and use the smoother side to finish the job by removing any streaks.
