Can anyone recommend how to get black tire dressing off the tires?
I recently purchased a car from a dealer who went nuts with the stuff. It is sticky and permanently turns black ANYTHING that touches it. I've already ruined a brand new sponge.
Will paint thinner work? Soap and a scrub brush don't do much to it. I am going to pull the wheels off this WE and want to get these cleaned up.
Do you not use thinner or any other petroleum based products. You will damage your tires. You may not see or notice of damage immediately, but they can, and will start cracking after a little time goes by. Petroleum based products on plastic or rubber is bad unless you’re interested in buying a new set a tires.
Simply using dedicated products made for this exact task is what you want. A stiff bristle tire brush and a tire cleaner from any one of a dozen car care companies will work. Multiple cleanings may be required. You can also use a citrus-based all-purpose cleaner, or even diluted Purple Power cleaner.

I agree with FYRARMS, Purple Power diluted or a host of other cleaners such as Greased Lighting, 409, Citrus degreaser, Spray Nine, Blue Wolf all purpose cleaner & degreaser. To get my tires the cleanest I use one of the above brands and my local car wash if they don't come clean the first time spray them again with a cleaner and use a stiff brush.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. This stuff is awful. A few years back I had the same thing happen to another car. I remember then, without anything more than soap and water, it took multiple washings to even get it to a point where it didn't turn everything black and sticky that touched it.
I'll try the purple power as I've used it before on other things.
