Removed 7-year-old Paint Protection Film (PPF) from the nose of my car. It had taken quite a few rock hits; some even went through the film. Just thought I'd share for anyone that hasn't done this before, what mine came off like. Something for reference, 32K miles, vehicle always in a temp controlled garage, plus was - not as bad as I thought it would be to remove.

Just curious why did you decide to remove it? Are you going to have new ppf applied?

Glad it went well. When I had PPF removed it pulled paint. The PPF was 6 years old, which should be within an acceptable range. Pulling paint is rare but not unusual. I bought my car used and it may have had paint work previously. This dramatically increases the risks, but it can still happen with factory paint. I'll be avoiding buying any car that has PPF in the future because it could mean a paint job. I removed mine because it was showing wear. PPF is not as impervious to rock hits as they'd like you to believe. It is typically recommended to replace PPF every 5-7 years, since it discolors and becomes harder and harder to remove. My PPF had a sickly green tone that was clearly visible after it was removed. When they warranty PPF it is for the PPF itself. They don't warranty that you can get it off. Even if you have a 10 year warranty on the PPF it is not advisable to leave it on the car that long.

The Xpel ppf was on my vehicle for 11 years when it was removed and new reapplied. The shop that did it said it came off easily and I saw no damage to the paint.

Yes, I plan on getting it replaced. It’s sacrificial and did its job.

I bought this stuff to remove the glue that remained but only had to spray the panel once and the glue basically just wiped off. There were a few spots where I had to reapply, rub and scrape off with a razor.

They make cleaner for your PPF, I usually bring it in and have it done after 2 years or so if it is really bad.

Do you mean you take it in for cleaning or take it in and have it replaced?
