Getting a new black car next week. Shopping for ceramic and ppf. Dumb question…..I assume the ppf goes on first? Paint correction, ppf and then ceramic over the ppf?
My black 2023 C8 was PPF wrapped and ceramic coated when new, but only after an intense paint correction regiment. After PPF it was ceramic coated and looks as perfect as it was when new. I have now discovered that the PPF may be lightly polished if needed using a PPF polish like Gyeon Renew and a Red Lake Country pad on a Dual Action polisher on a low speed. The polish action will remove some or all of the Ceramic coating and will need to be reapplied in most cases. I have seen the polished PPF and result is great. Most PPF wraps are "Self-healing" now and the small scratching and spider webbing may self-heal in the sun or using a heat gun.
Thanks all. I ended up with a Black Cadillac. I know we have some real challenges with black paint but from what I could see at the dealer it looked pretty decent. Shop owner asked me before he saw the car what the condition of the paint was and I relayed my impression. When I dropped it off he looked at it and said I agree it looks pretty good I only see a few minor areas. I'm impressed and think/hope GM has done something to fix the awful paint jobs some cars have. Have not got the car back yet but I could not see fighting keeping a black car clear wo the addition helps.
Again, before any PPF is applied a proper paint correction must be done. Get the car out in the sunlight and closely inspect the paint for micro scratching and other imperfections. On my black C-8, which was NCM R8C delivery. I spent many hours on getting the paint ready for the PPF application.
