It was 70* on Sunday so I finally clay barred my Vette on Sunday and boy did it need it. Because it's white, upon close inspection, it really shows the brake dust embedded in the paint. Clay barring will remove these deposits in the paint. I went over every inch of fiberglas with the bar, and followed that with some Maguires Gold Class. Took over 3 hours, but now the paint feels soft as silk. BTW, I used the Mother's Clay Bar kit found in any auto store.
I have used the Mother's also. I have been wondering if others have tried different clay bars and what their experience has been.
If it makes the paint smooth without leaving anything behind...what more would you like out of a clay bar?
I've used the Mothers kit and the Meguiars kit...both worked great.
My buddy Johnno picked up a synthetic clay bar at Chevy Vettefest in Chicago in the fall...they claim it will not dry out like the "natural" clay bars will...
I clay when it needs it...not baby soft is needing it IMHO...but if you keep it clean and waxed...it shouldn't need it.

I have seen some kits go for 18 to 20 dollars, and some start at 10, I was just wondering what other clay bars others have used to get thet pros and cons of the different makers out there.

Check box contents...some are just clay, some have clay, lube, wax...etc...
I was going to use the Mothers Clay bar this time, but it doesnt look like i have the money to spend (college student=broke) so i'm just going to put the Swirl remover/Paint Cleaner then the #7 and then probably 2 coats of the #26 or Gold Class.
After my paint job, it made a world of difference in the feel of the surface to use the clay bar.
On caution: I had to open 6 boxes of the Mothers to find one that still had the clay bar in it. Seems that someone or ones had padded their own box with some extra bars. :smash:
What it pulls off you'll be shocked!!! The surface is superbly clean and ready for your favorite polish or wax after a clay treatment. I do mine about twice a year.
I first used Zaino's clay bar about 8 months about I bought my Vette (It was new when I bought it). I originally planned on only claying "the bad spots", but I made the mistake of claying the entire drivers door below the moulding. After I saw the difference, I had to do the entire car.
