Hi Brannon, I think there are mixed feeling on Dawn, certainly if you're using Zaino their instructions call for Dawn but NXT's so don't use it. On the clay bar question it is used to remove microscopic particles embedded in the clear coat before you apply the top coats of your polish/wax. You should be able to find a lot of inof on clay batrs and their usage by just searching the posts for clay bay. Good luck :seeya
I heard their products are good, I use Griot's products, they have a very good book that you can obtain from them that shows you all you need to know on using their products to obtain a show car finish. It's a step by step book from cleaning and getting the surface ready to which is very important, to polishing to waxing, you might ck them out, good luck :flag
Dawn liquid, like many other detergants, is an alcaline basedproduct... it has the ability to strip old wax off your car without causing any damage to the clear coat. alcoline detergants are usually warm to the touch.... they will generate heat in your hand if you squeeze the solution..

Re: Need detailing tips. (Brannon)
I'm going to use the new Meguiar's NXT this weekend. People on the forum keep talking about using dawn before waxing. Should I do this?
Also, what is the purpose of a clay bar?
It's been said that Dawn will remove the wax from your paint. But sorry to say it's not true. It does have the ability to remove the oils from your wax though....... but also your black plastic trim as well.
Claying is a very simple process. Here's an Interforum link toThe Ultimate Clay Bar Guide that I posted a year or so ago.
