Default Buffer Marks in Paint

New 04 Lemans Blue, dealer attempted to take out some light scratches. They used an air driven buffer. I can see some of the "track" it left...circular dulling. I can only see it in the garage under the flouresent light. Outside you can't see it. Maybe that means something I don't know. Can I remove these by hand? Was thinking of using Maguiars Scratch X and/or Maguirs #7. I will then Zaino it. Will this work? Am I just being too picky?

:nonod: they used a high speed wheel not an orbital buffer and it burned the clearcoat. Not that this will answer your question but why did you let the dumbazzes at a GM dealership remove flaws in your already crappy paint job?

Now down to business. You will need to get an orbital buffer and 3M #39009. You will not be able to generate enough heat to do any good doing this by hand. Zaino will not do anything to cure your problem but once you use the 3M product you will need to do the Zaino process all over again to protect the paint. If you want to call me at work tomorrow, IM me and I will give you my number and give you detailed instructions.

I concur with MY02....I listened to these guys....bought me a Porter Cable and the GM product mentioned. It took out flaws that I swore would remain. The car look much better than when I bought it.

I use 3M Swirl Mark Remover part number 39009 with a foam pad and my Porter Cable. If you can bring the car over to me I would be glad to help you with it, you can pick up the Zaino from me also here in TN..............

First, thanks for everything. Here's what I did. Went home and washed the car. I was able to see the buffer marks on the hood in the garage under the fluorescent light. I used the 3M 39009 by hand just to try it. Put a quarter size amount on a 100% cotton applicator and rubbed up down, then left right on a 12" square area. After wiping it off, comparing it to the area I had not touched yet, it was working! Had to go over the area about 4-5 times, after doing that you could not see the marks any more. I followed it up by a coat of Meguiars # 7. I then put Zaino on the car for the first time. Car is only 2 weeks old. Applied 3 coats of the Z5, followed by 2 coats of Z2. The car looks gorgeous.

- What do you think? Did the 39009 just hide it or is it gone? Maybe it just looked worse than it was, the GM idiot did not clean up the car after he buffed the hood...nothing was applied but the 39009..Maybe the clearcoat wasn't burned. Is it possible it was slightly dulled from the wool pad?

-Have another issue now. After cleaning the car and while polishing it I noticed a very thin 8" scratch in the hood. I can catch my "finger nail on it", which I guess means its through the clearcoat. Its one of those I don't think anyone will notice, but I know its there and its going to drive me nuts. Any ideas how to fix this or make it the least noticeable possible?

Did you wash the car with Dawn or wipe the paint down with denatured alcohol right before the Zaino? if not the Zaino will not stick and durability will suffer very much, always apply Zaino to completely bare paint...........

The Meguiars #7 is a show car glaze and very oily, Zaino would never bond on top of a product like that or the 3M polishes..

The guy should have never used a wool pad on a new car paint.........Wool pads are very abrasive and made to remove paint as in taking off excess orange peel clear coat after a repaint.........

No, I did not wash the car with Dawn or wipe the paint down with denatured alcohol right before the Zaino. How can I test to see if the Zaino worked. I only did the hood with the 3M and Meguiars. I did Zaino the whole car though. The finish looks and feels the same on the hood and the rest of the car.

There is no test, but there has been no Zaino bond made with the paint where the Zaino was put on top of the Meguiars glaze, so the Zaino durability will suffer severely.........
